How to Make a Good Burger

Delicious Hamburger: Recipe for Success

Pun intended.

You’ll probably need at least an hour to make these burgers. Things always take longer than recipes say they do.

Yield time: 30-120+ minutes

Servings: depends how many patties you make.

Ingredients:

  • Raw ground beef (just under .25 lbs. of meat per patty)
  • Per burger:
    • 1 or 2 slices of tomato
    • Half a romaine lettuce leaf
    • 2 or 3 rings of red onion
    • 2 slices of avocado
    • 1 slice of bacon
    • Hamburger Buns
    • Squirts of Mayo and Ketchup
  • Maybe accompany with fries or mini baked potatoes?

Steps:

  1. Get all your toppings ready (see Ingredients > Per burger).
  2. Fire up your grill. Use charcoal if possible. If no grill: fry in a frying pan with vegetable oil. High heat!
  3. Make your patties. Grab a handful of raw meat. Like a baseball size. Compact and squish into a puck.
  4. Cook patties. Don’t overcook them! If on high heat you should only need to grill the first side for 2 or 3 minutes. Then flip. When the red juices start coming out you should be good to go. Approx. 2-4 minutes per side. It depends on the heat.
  5. Toast hamburger buns.
  6. Compile burgers! Enjoy!

Lack of Good Restaurants Improves Your Cooking

Since I’ve been in Ecuador, there hasn’t been any good burgers. I’ve been forced to learn to make good burgers. My dad does most of the work to be honest, but I still cook them.

We’ve had to cook the burgers in a pizza oven which is super hard because there is no airflow. The charcoals take forever to get going.

The cool thing is where we get our meat, they literally grind the meat right then and there when we ask for it.

Another thing we’ve learned, is that the meat in Ecuador has substantially less fat than the meat we buy at Costco in the States. Which actually makes it harder to cook to perfection. The avocados are amazing here though.

  • What burger tips do you have?

  1. For more burger joy, add a slice of cheddar cheese on top of the patties after they have been removed from the grill! The cheese will melt real nice.
